RSS Awarded UTA’s Commuter Rail South

picture

RSS and our partner MJG are part of the award-winning team selected in 2008 by UTA and Commuter Rail Constructors, for the Commuter Rail South Project. RSS and MJG are responsible for procurement and installation of the new $29.5M project. UTA’s new line will add commuter rail service from the Provo Intermodal Center, through Utah County, to the Salt Lake Central Station in downtown Salt Lake City. The project, also known as FrontRunner South, will be approximately 44 miles in length, consisting of wayside and cab signal territory, and will be a 79 mph cab signal system. UTA plans are to build the line on the east side of the existing UPRR mainline tracks, switching over to the west side as it enters Utah County. The line runs immediately adjacent to the UP mainline, with some track centers closer than 25 feet and includes multiple tie-ins with UPRR track. It will provide six new and two future stations, 32 cut sections, 25 interlockings and 38 grade crossings, the warning systems of which of which are planned to interface with UPRR crossing systems. Construction on FrontRunner South began in August of 2008 and is planned for completion at the close of 2012.
